Goodbye,Oprah.

Goodbye,Oprah.

It is things like this that make me feel old! I cannot believe that it is almost twenty-five years since Oprah Winfrey first graced our television screens.

I am not (and never have been) a big fan of chat shows. They are the sort of programme that I would never bother sitting down to watch, but saying this I was still sad to hear about Oprah calling it a day.

When her show first began in 1986, I remember thinking that it did not really appeal to me. However, since that time I have found that myself warming to her considerably. I think that she is actually a really nice person and out of the other chat shows I would be the first to say that hers is the most intelligent one. You don’t think any chat shows can be intelligent? Go and watch ten minutes of Jeremy Kyle or Jerry Springer and tell me you still feel the same!

Over the years, Oprah has become a household name and she has earned the respect of a great many people. She is an intelligent woman who is very good at her job and her chat show is several stories higher than most of the others.

Even though I am not into this sort of programme I can still recognise that the ending of her show is a big thing. You can be sure that whatever it is that takes over the space she leaves in the schedule will not have the same amount of quality. How can I know this? Well, that is because anything of a higher standard is slowly disappearing from our screens and being replaced by dross. Modern television is scraping the bottom of the barrel and there is a lot of rubbish floating up to the surface…

Just before I go I need to rant a little, I was speaking to my brother who works in the city and he thinks that there is massive money in buying stocks for central heating oil suppliers. He is one of those types of people who is of the opinion that America is trying to seize the world by taking over the Middle East. I must say I am getting pretty tired of the fact that everyone seems to have the same justification on this.
