The Anglo-American Law

Comparing the US and Britain has led to so many considerations that people are trying to show differences n the smallest aspects of life while ignoring similarities that might struck your eyes out. For example it is quite easy for a person to notice the lack of humour in American newspapers or the rare hair in an old British lady and compare that to the opposite that would be natural for the other respective country, but it seems to be quite hard for a person to see how much in common these countries have - for example, a mortgage broker would act under almost the same common law rules in both countries.
Talking about common law, this is the place to mention the similarities between Britain and the US. Both countries same one and the same legal system - founded upon the doctrine of common law and supported by issued pieces of legislation by the Parliaments (or the Congress). So what appears to be a continental legal system in the US is actually a quite national system developed on the other side of the world in Britain. British law is a compound of the governance and justice allocation in every country from the common wealth, including the US.
Another feature would be the comparison between some legal aspects in both countries - for example the laws on self-defence. In the US, the approach is almost the same adopted by the UK. In Britain the rules about reasonable force, preservation of life and using force in order to strike back or constitute a legally right arrest match the exact requirements under which the same rules are used in the US. And even though different authorities and pieces of legislation operate in both countries, with the centuries the have undertaken the same approach in dealing with these matters.
So can these two countries be that different after they actually rely on the same principles to guide their lives?
