It's A War Budget

Surprisingly, the US economy continues to shrink despite the forecasts that it would grow in time and would recover from the severe recession. However, one branch of the state seems to have suffered no loss of capital - the military force of the US continues to be a well financed and well supplied sector.

People might have stopped buying super expensive jewellery, the automobile producers might have reduced their sales and suffered decrease in their stock values, however, the media keeps ’entertaining'us with news about the performance of the American troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. It is not said to be bad thing, definitely they have a good reason to stay there and keep those territories safe, but given the economic climate when everything is changing in negative direction, keeping such a strong military force well supplied and financed has its concerning points.

Firstly, the money spent there could have boosted other sectors that needed urgent financing. And we are not talking about cutting the operations in the Middle East or Afghanistan but about a minor cut, not even like the ’tiny'cuts in the UK. And the Bush administration, that was blamed for spending too much on war activities, and the Obama administration that seems to support the same course of actions, conduct operations that consume large capital. Just bits of it could have boosted the economy so that the recession could have passed more easily.

Secondly, the money spent on research and maintenance of the army has remained the same - something that can be further considered as not the best move. Again, no-one is saying cut the whole thing - but rather reduce the expenses there so that more money can be spared for the exhausted economic environment.
