Assessing the history of the 'special relationship' between the UK and the US

Since the Second World War, British Prime Ministers have forever hailed the so-called ’special relationship’ between Britain and the United States. It was a relationship they claimed had much to do with the countries’ shared history, cultural similarities and shared values. Not to mention the multiple times that we visit there on tourism, to go on ski holidays, and to experience our ’good friends'culture. The Second World War was a time in which Britain and the US fought hand Read the rest of this entry »

It’s Time To Kiss And Make Up!

It's Time To Kiss And Make Up!

It has often been said in the past that the United States of America and Great Britain have a special relationship, somewhere between an old married couple and two best friends who see each other every night in the local bar. We share the same language, the same love of freedom, we watch the same television shows, have the same self vanity (look at the stats for thread vein treatment, and you will see what I am talking about) Read the rest of this entry »

Why Are Americans Complaining About Gas Prices..Seriously

Americans are complaining about the increasing gas oil prices. This is because everyday there has to be skyrocketing or outrageous gas prices in America. The main reason why the Americans are complaining is because the price of fuel is higher for their income to sustain it. Gas prices affect most of the prices of other items in the Read the rest of this entry »

BP needs to fix the oil problem and take responsibility

Posted by admin on June 16, 2010

With the biggest disaster to hit the oceans in a very long time the BP gas oil spill is still going strong. There is so much damage already done that there is no way to know the extent of it just yet. Birds, turtles, and other animals inhabiting the ocean are dying slow painful deaths. There are thousands of volunteers helping to aid the animals that are alive by washing them and trying to nurse them back to help. Many are making efforts to clean shorelines and try to prevent anymore of the oil to reach the coasts. There are even celebrities donating millions of dollars on the costs of the clean up right down to local people who have bizarre ideas that just might help with some of the clean up. It is very difficult to keep the oil in a specific location and away from land or animals.

BP has said again and again how apologetic they are for the occurrence. They claim that it was and is just an accident and that they will pay for all the damage that incurs. Yet they can not pay for life to be given back to the animals who have lost their lives. This is truly a sad moment and unfortunately, there will probably be thousands more animals that will lose their lives before this mess is cleaned up.

There are many fisherman who will not be able to fish for many years now and BP is saying they will pay any and all claims that are made by those who are affected. How long will they pay and how much? This is something that will be affecting humanity and the creatures of the world for years to come. This is not just something that can be swept up and taken away. BP is now under attack by not just the government and the people. They now have other major oil companies saying that they have been operating outside of what the norms for the industry are. If it is shown that BP is operating outside of the norms they will have a lot of questions to answer and a lot more responsibility to take.

Why U.S. Senate Nominee Rand Paul’s Comments on Civil Rights Was Unfortunate

Posted by admin on May 27, 2010

Rand Paul’s comment was dead wrong because of how he answered to make it as if he was not 100% against racism. If he was going to answer the question, he should’ve at least answered it in a fashion that was clear, either yes he would’ve voted for the Civil Rights or no that he would not. Although racism is not as big in modern times now like it used to be back in the early to mid 20th century, Read the rest of this entry »

How to Fix US Immigration Law: What Must Be Done

Recently, the US has seen their immigration laws go under a microscope amidst the latest fiasco regarding Arizona’s changed laws. The Governor of Arizona, Jan Brewer recently passed a law that will make it illegal for any non-American to be present in the state without the necessary documents . It is also being strictly enforced, where citizens and non-citizens alike are under heavy scrutiny. This brings up the very apt comparison to an Orwellian society. Illegal immigrants are rounded up Read the rest of this entry »

Are the Americans Headed To Civil War

These days it is not unusual to hear people talk about an impending American Civil War brewing. But could it be that reality is a bit different on the ground. It seems that since the healthcare bill has been passed there has been a deep division as to what this means. From one side that supports the bill to those who simply hate everything about it. Both sides seem to be prepared to go to war over it. Do I Read the rest of this entry »

Is that all the Americans Can Do To Israel, Talk. We Brits Should ask for more

The Israeli and Palestinian dispute has been raging for decades (if not centuries) while the US does very little to solve the problem. There is little doubt that the Americans support Israel in this battle (less so in recent times) and do very little in the way of condemning their actions. When the Palestinians commit acts of aggression, they are met by the US with disdain; however, when similar acts are committed by Israelis against Palestinians, rarely if ever do Read the rest of this entry »

A 21st Century Empire?

History is littered with empire - Greeks, Romans, British, German, French, many countries have had a go at world domination. During these periods the dominating power has always viewed themselves as being in the right - they had taken their place in the world. The 20th century saw the demise of the British empire and the rise and fall of a communist one. These were replaced by the ever growing influence and power of the United States of America.
